Congratulations to our 2011 winner Kerry Mitchell!
Miss Universe Liverpool was Kerry’s first pageant and we think she’s done amazingly well to go out and win the contest.
Kerry was interviewed by Amanda Moss, of Lifestyle Monthly Magazine about her recent success in the Miss Universe Liverpool 2011 final:
How did you get into modelling?
I’m not a model as such as I just started getting into doing fashion shows for up and coming designers and also charity fashion shows. Miss Universe Liverpool is my first pagent I have entered.
What did it feel like winning Miss Universe Liverpool?
It felt amazing, I couldn’t believe it, it was great being in the final but winning was a dream come true.
Did you have any idea that you would win?
No, I had no idea as there was 30 other beautiful girls in the final.
What prize did you get?
Photo shoot at the LMI studio, Authentic russion hair, Diamond necklace and earrings, Facial for me and my family, Meal for two at The Living Rooms, Makeover @ Glamour pit & MAC, £200 voucher at Sassoon Met Quarter and, biggest of all, a place at the Miss Universe GB final in Birmingham!
How did you prepare for the competition?
As a finalist we had interviews and information packs, ongoing support with the license holder LMI, with all the answers to our questions. LMI was there when we needed to call to panic with questions, or even call in to calm a few of us down. The excitement was amazing it was so hard to control it. Having people around me to encourage me made it so much easier. As we all know to enter a beauty pageant we all raise funds for a charity — the chosen charity was the Joshua Foundation, which is for children with terminal cancer. The Miss Universe Liverpool competition raised just over £13,000 for Joshua Foundation which was phenomenal. The Everton team kindly donated a signed ball and shirt winch helped greatly with the funds raised. I did a charity Raffle with some amazing prizes kindly donated by many people and companies which helped me raise over £500!
Where do you want to take your career from now?
Win Miss Universe GB and go into Win Miss Universe owned by Donald Trump. I will be working closely with the Organiser of Miss Universe Liverpool, LMI founder Elizabeth Forshaw. We have loads coming up this year and I will automatically be entered into the LMI pageants. There’s 3 coming up in 2011 — Miss England and Miss Universe qualifying heats. And I hope to pursue modelling as a career and help other girls achieve their dreams too!
As an ambassador to the city what do you feel your responsibilities are?
I think it’s important for me to be a good role model for young girls of Liverpool as I’m proud to be representing my city I love and live in.
How do you feel about your future?
I feel positive, I feel I want to make a difference as pageants are not just about looks, it’s about intelligence, personality, charisma and determination. I want to make dreams a reality and make the most out of life & help other girls do the same. Being confident and focused, anything you put your mind to you can achieve.
What are you plans for the next year?
I plan to focus on Miss Universe GB final in May 2011 and promote myself and my city.
What is your ultimate dream?
Would be to win Miss Universe GB and inspire young girls to follow their dreams. I have Cystic Fibrosis and I would encourage anybody else with an illness not to let it get you down or get in the way of achieving your dreams. The confidence boost and the support is amazing and for a minute lets you forget about everything else you go through. I want to make every girl feel this good!
